Hello Daniel,

Good question! Starting your journey into gaining online psychology experience can be exciting and valuable. Here are some ways to begin:

1. Online Volunteer Opportunities
- Crisis Text Line: Train as a volunteer crisis counselor, gaining experience in active listening and crisis intervention.
- 7 Cups: Become a listener to anonymously provide emotional support to others.
- Mental Health America (MHA): Offers virtual volunteering options related to advocacy and education.

These are great for building communication skills while helping people.

2. Free or Affordable Online Courses
- Coursera: Courses like *Introduction to Psychology* by Yale or *Clinical Psychology* by the University of Edinburgh.
- edX: Offers psychology courses from top universities.
- Khan Academy: Free psychology content tailored for beginners.
- Udemy: Affordable options with practical content on psychology and mental health.

Certifications from these platforms look great on your resume.

3. Research Assistantships and Projects
- Websites like VolunteerMatch, Idealist, or ResearchGate sometimes list online research assistant opportunities.
- Join online communities (e.g., Reddit, LinkedIn groups) where professors or students seek collaborators.
- Participate in online studies through platforms like Prolific or Psychological Science Accelerator to understand how studies are conducted.

This can help you learn research design, data collection, and analysis skills.

4. Networking and Online Communities
- Join groups like APA’s Psych Student Network, LinkedIn psychology groups, or Psychology Today forums.
- Use Discord or Reddit communities like r/psychology to connect with like-minded individuals and experts.

Networking can help you find mentors and discover hidden opportunities.

5. Write or Create Content
- Start a blog or contribute to existing platforms (e.g., Medium, Psychology Today).
- Create infographics, videos, or social media content to share what you're learning.
- Participate in online psychology-related writing competitions.

This demonstrates initiative and communication skills.
6. Virtual Internships
- Platforms like Internship.com, Indeed, or Handshake offer virtual internships related to psychology.
- Look for positions in counseling centers, non-profits, or HR departments.

Internships are a stepping stone to more specialized roles.

7. Skill Development in Psychology Tools
- Learn to use psychology-related tools such as SPSS, R, or Qualtrics (for research) or tools like Zoom and telehealth platforms (for counseling).
- Platforms like YouTube, LinkedIn Learning, and Skillshare offer tutorials on these tools.

These technical skills are highly valuable in psychology careers.

8. Build Your Portfolio
- Document your online experiences, training, and volunteer work.
- Create a LinkedIn profile showcasing your achievements and connect with professionals in the field.

A strong portfolio can open doors to advanced opportunities.

Finding the right opportunities to gain experience may take some time. Don't get discouraged if you don't find the perfect opportunity right away.

Best wishes!

Hi, Daniel !

Even though you live in Thailand and I am not familiar with the social service community there, I can suggest something that may help navigate you but it is U.S. based. It's what I would suggest to someone in America.

Do an online search for your country's Suicide Prevention or Crisis Hotline. You most likely could be a volunteer counselor for them. Usually these services consist of accurate and thorough training before you begin. So, any kind of Help Line Service that is in your country would train you and be a good volunteer experience.

You could also see if your local law enforcement may have opportunities for you to volunteer. Try not to limit it to online, though, but I do hope you find what you are looking for. You may also visit the local schools and see if they would want you to do volunteer counseling for students via Zoom or E-Mail. You will first have to explore in person and offer your services for the best results.

Best wishes in all you do !
