Capital One job application process/advice

Hi everyone,
I graduated in Spring 2024 and have been on the job market since then.
I recently applied for the Platform Engineer role at Capital One, and a recruiter reached out to me about a job tryout assessment.

Congratulations on getting a response to further apply to Capitol One ! So basically, a Job Try Out Assessment still means that you are applying. It is a longish process in which Capitol One will evaluate you and your abilities, skills and presentation. It is still just an interview with many parts.

This assessment takes place online remotely. The first part is the virtual job try out. They will simulate a case study for you to work on so they can get an idea of your skill. Your analytical skills and problem solving skills will be tested during the numerical reasoning questions that they present to you. Next is a phone interview. Next is a first in-office interview with a staff of Capitol One followed at a different time with an in-office interview with a manager. Depending on the position you're applying for, you may need to take a coding and/or business assessment to show your skills in those areas.

When one is finished with that and on to the next step, that would be attending a Power Day. That is the last phase of the process. At Power Day, you would be involved in activities, case studies, and some group exercises with other applicants. At this point, after the Power Day, Capitol One chooses someone for the position. No, I have never worked for Capitol One nor have I ever had an interview like this, but, as an Actress, I have had some interesting, unconventional auditions !

Some tips about the video interview . . . use a very plain background. Avoid having anything showing in the room like clothes hung up or an open closet or clutter. Dress in business attire even though it is remote. You want to show them that you're serious about being professional. Be well-groomed and have a gentle smile that can make the interviewer feel comfortable and good interacting with you. Try to do the remote interview in a place which there can be no interruptions in the room from people, pets or the sound of landscapers too close to the window, LOL ! Acing this phase will bring you to the next step !

I dont know the particulars of a Capitol One interview. You may find specific examples on the internet. Be sure to study the STAR interview method and remember, when they ask "Tell us about yourself" emphasize your education and experience for the job. That is what they really want to hear about.
