When I was fresh out of high-school I didn't have money, direction and barely had a skill set. I joined the military and found a path in aviation. My advice, if you don't know where to start take the asvab test and see what jobs are available to you in the military. Most contracts are 4 to 5 years and not only will you acquire a skill but will also have benefits to succeed in the civilian world. Jobs can range from administrators to aircraft mechanics to cybersecurity. Do your research. Best of luck.

One thing I've learned in my 36 years of life is that the harder you look for your life's calling or purpose, the more elusive it may become.
My advice is to not think about it, let things progress naturally, trust in God and the universe to guide your thoughts and actions. If it feels right, then it is right.
Follow your heart and pay attention to things that bring you great joy. What makes you happy, is what you were meant for.
In your question you did not state your age. But if your in highschool or in your mid-20's, you got nothing to worry about.
90% of people in your age group are completely lost on what they should do.
but my best advice, is to just relax, let your anxiety disappear, and trust in your own self and intuition.
Only you know what is best for you in the end.

Hi Graydon,
Finding a path that truly resonates with your passions can feel daunting, especially in a vibrant and competitive city like Los Angeles. However, there are actionable steps you can take to uncover opportunities that align with your creativity and hard work.
Firstly, consider enrolling in local workshops or classes related to your interests. For instance, if you're drawn to graphic design, places like The Art Department or General Assembly offer courses that can spark ideas and refine your skills. Not only will these environments foster your creativity, but they'll also connect you with like-minded individuals who can inspire and collaborate with you. Networking in these settings could open doors to job opportunities that are hard to find through traditional channels.
Another approach is to explore volunteer positions or internships in fields that intrigue you. Organizations often seek passionate individuals willing to contribute, and it's a great way to gain hands-on experience. For instance, look into arts nonprofits like The Hammer Museum or local galleries that might need help with exhibitions or community outreach. These experiences will enrich your resume and could lead to full-time roles where you can dive deeper into your passions.
Lastly, don't underestimate the power of online platforms. Websites like MeetUp can help you discover events or groups centered around your interests. Engaging in these communities will not only expand your network but also keep you informed about job openings or projects that align with your values.
Keep experimenting and exploring; the path you’re meant to follow often reveals itself through the journey. Good luck!

Hi Graydon,
It’s natural to feel uncertain about finding a path that feels truly aligned with your values, especially when you're seeking a balance between passion and creativity. To start, spend time reflecting on what you enjoy and what makes you feel fulfilled. Think about activities, hobbies, or projects where you feel most engaged and excited. For example, if you like to create, whether it's art, writing, or designing, jobs in fields like marketing, advertising, graphic design, or media production might suit you. Exploring creative industries or entrepreneurship could also be a good fit if you want the freedom to bring your passion into what you do.
Another useful approach is to get hands-on experience in different areas through internships, volunteering, or side projects. This helps you test out different fields while also building skills and networking. Mentors can also be valuable—talk to people who have found careers that inspire you and ask about their journey. As you try new things and learn more about yourself, you may find new directions that you hadn't considered before.
Best wishes!

Let's Revisit This, Shall We?
"I'm still searching for the path that resonates with me. What are the most effective methods to discover paths that align with my interests?"
The first step is to delve into your interests. They could be anything, from sleeping, procrastinating, to sports, arts, business, and so on.
What sparks your enthusiasm, Graydon? Does this spark also bring you a sense of joy, fulfillment, and value?
What kind of life could you fully commit to if this source of joy and fulfillment was within your grasp?
Your passion could be more or less valuable than you perceive it to be. It must hold some value for you, even if others don't see it.
So, pursue a career that aligns with your passion(s), but don't anticipate financial gain unless you can make it profitable. If it's profitable, at least it will bring you joy, which is far more valuable than a miserable life for the sake of profit.
I've led a dynamic life, full of ups and downs, but it required significant sacrifices. Yet, when I returned to my passions, the joy in my life returned, and the pieces of the puzzle fell into place. You'll learn these lessons in time, but start by dedicating yourself to your passions. Maintain these passions part-time if you decide to join the workforce, but never let anyone take them away from you.

Its good to find a career that aligns with your passions and values. When I went to college years back, I picked a course that was available because I did not have career guidance. There so many ways to explore paths that might fit you.
Find activities, subjects, or problems you naturally gravitate toward and feel excited to work on. Identify where your creativity, hard work, and passion intersect. Try short-term projects in industries that interest you to see what resonates.
Turn creative hobbies into small projects and see if they interest you more. Connect with people doing work you admire. Shadowing or informational interviews can provide insight. Join groups where creatives, entrepreneurs, or professionals in industries you like share experiences and advice. Take courses or certifications to test and refine your skills in areas you’re curious about.
Reflect on what challenges you’ve enjoyed in your career or personal projects so far. These could point you toward paths that feel meaningful.
Finding the right fit might take time. With your strong values and passion, you will discover something rewarding.
