I have been searching for a career, and I found biopharmaceutical science. I was wondering if anyone had any idea what biopharmaceutical science is and what this study does. I want to learn more about what biopharmaceutical science is.

I'm glad that you are interested in a potential career in biopharmaceutical sciences. I found the following definition: biopharmaceutical science involves study of the discovery, development, and processing of modern medical drugs by artificially growing some or all of the components utilizing cell culture technology. This was specific to an academic program in biopharmaceutical science offered by a school.

The primary difference between biopharmaceuticals and traditional pharmaceuticals is the method by which the drugs are produced: The former are manufactured in living organisms such as bacteria, yeast and mammalian cells (cell culture), whereas the latter are manufactured through a series of chemical synthesis.

I had a career in biopharmaceutical science and molecular biology related to antibiotic research. I worked with actinomycetes, a class of bacteria that produce antibiotics. The pharmaceutical research community and academia in the area of biopharmaceutical research is very competitive, but very interesting and rewarding if you persevere and find your niche.

Here is my limited and narrow experience in biopharmaceutical science. I got a B.S. in microbiology from the University of Michigan and got some experience working in labs at the university. While graduating, I sent out 100 letters as well as my resume to companies that I thought could use someone with my background. I also went to a job fair and landed a job with a pharmaceutical company that day. Later while working at that job I was contacted by a second pharmaceutical company as a result of the letters that I sent prior to my interview.

In my job I collaborated with my boss (PhD in science, likely microbiology) and coworkers, planning experiments, executing experiments, documenting experiments, analyzing results and re-evaluating the direction of the research, helping with manuscripts, presenting work to groups.
