Hi Aryanna,
If you'd like to make some money and do not want to be a cashier you should consider the Rover platform, if you like animals. On Rover you are able to do dog walking or pet care from your home. It's a great way to earn a bit of money for your family. If you become very active on the site you can make much more money and its open to anyone, you do not need to be accepted - just pass a background check.

I am really grateful you took the time to answer this question.

It is my pleasure Aryanna. You might also want to take a look at the site Fiverr - this is a site that allows you to sell your skills, example, if you like to draw you can sell your art work. If you like to edit writing you can sell that service. Its a website that allows you to sell your skills, from home. Best of luck!

Hi Aryanna,
It’s inspiring to hear how motivated you are to help your mom, and your determination is already a huge strength. Finding a job quickly is totally possible, especially with your positive attitude and willingness to learn. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you:
1. Highlight Your Skills
- Make a list of things you’re good at—whether it’s organizing, cleaning, working with your hands, or being creative.
- If you’re a fast learner, emphasize that when you apply for jobs—it’s a big plus for employers.
2. Explore Job Options That Don’t Involve Cashiering
Since you’d prefer not to work as a cashier, here are some other roles to consider:
- Stock Associate: Organizing products and stocking shelves in stores or warehouses.
- Receptionist or Office Assistant: Answering phones, organizing files, and assisting in office tasks.
- Delivery Driver or Helper: Helping with deliveries for local businesses.
- Childcare Assistant: Babysitting or working in a daycare if you enjoy working with kids.
- Cleaning or Maintenance Jobs: Working in cleaning services or helping with basic maintenance tasks.
- Restaurant Support Staff: Positions like food prep, dishwasher, or hostess in restaurants.
3. Start Your Job Search
- Local Businesses: Visit nearby stores, restaurants, or offices. Many places post "Now Hiring" signs.
- Online Job Boards: Check out Indeed, Upwork, Fiverr, LinkedIn, Snagajob, or local job sites for openings near you.
- Community Groups: Look for local job postings on Facebook groups or community boards.
- Ask Around: Let friends, family, or neighbors know you’re looking for work—they might know someone hiring!
4. Create a Simple Resume
- Include your name, contact info, any experience (even babysitting, volunteering, or school projects), and your skills (like being a fast learner and hardworking).
- If you’re unsure how to start, there are free templates online that can help.
5. Prepare for Interviews
- Be ready to share why you’d be great for the job—mention how hardworking, reliable, and quick to learn you are.
- Practice answering simple questions like, “Why do you want this job?” or “What are your strengths?”
6. Stay Positive and Persistent
- You might not land the first job you apply for, and that’s okay. Keep applying and showing your enthusiasm.
- Follow up after interviews or applications—it shows employers you’re serious.
You’ve Got This! You’re already showing responsibility and a strong work ethic, which will shine through to employers. Keep believing in yourself, and remember that every step you take is a step closer to helping your mom and reaching your goals—you’re going to do amazing!
Best wishes!

Nada’s Answer
Aryanna this is an extremely nobble gesture. There is some great recommendations above. Something else to consider is the way you present yourself + resume/ CV.
Regardless of whether you're a seasoned professional with over two decades of experience or a fresh graduate wanting to move into teaching, having a clear, succinct, and impactful CV is crucial. Given that you've recently left school, a one-page CV would be ideal, but remember, it needs to be distinctive.
Skills are transferable! Its great to check out your dream job on LinkedIn or other job sites, identify the necessary skills and then consider how you can acquire these skills through a more accessible role, such Customer Service experience in retail or Fast food OR even at school, if you had any accolade's from school that demonstrated a great work ethic eg letter from teacher. You can also tailor your CV to emphasize Transferable Skills over specific job titles, making you a more attractive candidate for a wider range of roles, rather than being restricted to jobs based on your previous titles. To find examples, just search for Transferable skills CV example online.
Also, I discovered an outstanding CV template on Etsy, which I bought and simply filled in the gaps. Typically, the first page serves as an introduction or cover letter, presenting who you are and why you believe you're the perfect fit for the role. The second page is your actual CV, highlighting your relevant experience and skills for the position.
I hope this advice is beneficial. Your career is a journey, not a destination. You may start in one area and end up in another. That's completely fine. Embrace the journey + good luck.

Consider exploring online and remote job opportunities as we're living in a digital era where many companies are hiring remotely. Websites like care.com can be beneficial if you're interested in roles such as an assistant or family helper.
Remember to speak up for yourself and let people know you're seeking employment, as this can expand your network. Maintain an up-to-date resume featuring your contact details and ensure you have an active email account for communication.

Good for you wanting to help your Mom! Since you're a student, perhaps your job must be part-time and flexible. Consider creating a flyer of all the things you can do and when you might be available, emphasizing your flexibility. Include things like running errands, childcare, washing windows, grocery shopping, etc. Send it to all your neighbors, relatives and friends. You can gain valuable skills regardless of what job you are doing.
With every good wish.

Trisha’s Answer
Aryanna, Your passion is very important. Every employer wants to know that you want their job. Many companies are hiring now temporarily for holiday season but good employees are hired after the holidays. Did you do a resume or have something you can share with them with your details? If not many companies have applications. Also, many companies offer benefits like Starbucks for even part-time hours. I suggest you go into places that interest you. Share that you are very interested and like the company and would be interested in a job. Showing you are flexible with hours really helps as well. Many companies like retail have nice career tracks for you to work your way around and you do not have to be a cashier specifically. Find a place you like and walk in those places showing your passion and you will land something great. Good luck!
Thank you, Trisha for the advice.
