How do I choose between two career paths?

I have two different career paths that I want to do but cant pick witch one. The two career paths are either an teacher or a hair dresser. I would like to be a teacher because I like working with students around the ages of grade 4-8 but I would also like to be a hair dresser because ever sense I was little I would cut and style my dolls hair

Hi Katie,

Two very good options for careers. I would recommend seeing if you can volunteer in your local school system and see if you really do enjoy being a teacher, or might enjoy being a teacher. You can also get a part time job at a daycare or school, that will help you understand if you'd like to be a teacher fulltime. As for a hairdresser, maybe you can reach out to your local salon and see if they'd let you shadow one of the hair dressers for a few days and see if that is something that you enjoy. Honestly, I do know some school teachers that are hair dressers on the weekends and during the summer. As a Teacher you have the opportunity to have the summers off, you could always pursue both careers, Teacher fulltime and Hairdresser on the side. You'd build a great clientele since I bet your students would want to come see you!

It's very difficult to figure out what you may want to do. Don't forget people start new careers and do different things all the time. Here is my advice spend some time with people in the jobs. Ask them what they like, ask them about the challenges. You can even ask if you can "shadow" or watch them in action. The next thing might be to take a class or visit a school or program. See what perks your interest while there. Both are wonderful jobs. Good luck!!!
