How would I know that I chose the right career?

I am asking this question because I am afraid I would spend my life working on a job I am not even passionate about.

Choosing the right career is utmost important. But, sometimes it takes time to identify it. Another crucial thing in this is, never compare yourself with those who had already set their career goals because it is "never too late". Most of the time we encounter it with the journey of our life.

Following are the ways that you can use in order to identify what is right for you:

  1. Take an aptitude test in order to determine your personality. (You will get clarity of what are your skills at present and what are the best opportunities for you with respect to your current skill set.)
  2. Explore by yourself. Now it depends upon your interest area. For example, you like to study Business. Now you have one answer. Next, What in business? Is it Marketing (selling of products and services), HR (Managing people), Finance (money related things) and so on. Once you select one out of these. Then you can explore what are the career options available in these fields. As every field has General profiles (which takes care of everything) and Specialized Profiles (They are specialist, due to their interest in one particular area.)
  3. As mentioned in the comment section, you can always take advice from the people you know, who are currently working in the field which you wish to pursue.
  4. Also, you can take help from your school. Contact the person who has data of all your seniors. Talk to them who are currently working in that field.
  5. Professors are the great mentor too. Take help from them too, they will guide you.

At last, it is you who have to decide what is good for you. It will take time.

So, don't stress! Take it as it comes.

Good Luck!

Sometimes you have to try a few fields/careers before you can know what you like. Alternatively talk to your friends, seniors in different careers and ask them 'what is a day in their life' and how did they reach there. Maybe that will help you figure out. You need to ask yourself what subjects you like and align things accordingly.

Your career path isn't set once you choose your first job. Don't be shy in exploring, and the best way to do that is to talk to people in the field. Ask them questions about why they chose to do what they do, and see if they have any advise for you. Life is about constant learning and discovering!

The best way to tell is if you are truly passionate about the field and it’s not work for you! The best “job” is something that’s not a job at all! It’s a love!! Good luck finding what you love.
