Hi Maia-Nicole,

It’s great that you’re already thinking ahead about your career as an art director! While I’m not from Romania, I can offer some helpful guidance. Here are a few things to consider:

• High Schools in Romania for Art-Related Careers

1. National College of Art (Liceul de Arte): A solid choice for aspiring artists, with programs focusing on visual arts and design.

2. Technical Schools with a Focus on Design:
Look for schools that offer graphic design, digital media, or multimedia as part of their curriculum. These can provide foundational skills that will help you later as an art director.

3. Private Art Schools:
Some private schools offer specialized courses in graphic design and advertising. They could provide more focused training, though they might come with higher tuition costs.

• Self-Study Options

If you’re not sure about your high school choice yet, or want to expand your skills in parallel, there are plenty of online resources to start learning graphic design and art direction on your own:

1. Coursera:
Offers free and paid courses in graphic design and digital media.

2. Skillshare:
Great for learning creative tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, and web design basics.

3. YouTube:
Tons of free tutorials on design principles, Adobe software, and even advertising design.

4. Behance:
Explore portfolios from top designers to get inspiration and understand industry standards.

Lastly I want to say that, choosing a high school is a big decision, but remember, it's just one step in your journey. Focus on building your skills in art and design, and don’t be afraid to explore both traditional and digital design. Your passion and creativity will guide you as you move forward!

I hope this helps.
Best of luck!

Hadley’s Answer

Hello, Maia-Nicole!

I can't say I'm entirely familiar with Romania's school system, but I do have some recommendations for you to get the experience you want!

1. You can learn these things outside of school. Maybe look into internships or job shadowing opportunities at companies that offer graphic design or publishing. You might luck out and find programs outside of your high school that can provide plenty of in-field experience.

2. From what you described are your interests, I'd recommend looking into high schools that teach Sports Marketing, since that's a field that utilizes the various topics you're interested in (i.e. graphic design, publishing, website design, advertising, businesses, sports organizations). Overall though, find a high school that excites you to learn and is accessible. Because even if you don't learn from your classes, there are plenty of online resources you can refer to that will teach you the skills you need to learn more about the topics you listed.

I'm assuming that high school in Romania functions similarly to America's, so yeah. I hope this advice helps you with your situation and that you have a wonderful day! You got this!

Choosing a High School for Aspiring Art Directors in Romania

To pursue a career as an art director, particularly in graphic design, it is essential to select a high school that offers a strong foundation in the arts and relevant subjects. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you make an informed decision:

1. Understanding the Role of an Art Director: An art director is responsible for overseeing the visual aspects of projects in various fields such as advertising, publishing, and digital media. This role requires creativity, technical skills, and knowledge of design principles. Therefore, your education should focus on developing these skills.

2. Identifying Relevant High Schools: In Romania, several high schools specialize in arts and design programs that can prepare you for a future career as an art director. Look for schools that offer specialized curricula in visual arts or graphic design. Some notable options include:

Colegiul Național de Arte “George Enescu” (National College of Arts “George Enescu”) - Located in Bucharest, this school is renowned for its comprehensive arts programs, including visual arts and graphic design.

Liceul Teoretic “Nicolae Iorga” - This high school offers a profile focused on fine arts and has a good reputation for preparing students for creative careers.

Liceul de Arte Plastice “Nicolae Tonitza” - Also located in Bucharest, this institution specializes in plastic arts and provides extensive training in various artistic disciplines.

Colegiul Național de Arte “Octav Bancilă” (National College of Arts “Octav Bancilă”) - Based in Iași, this college offers programs that emphasize both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the arts.

3. Exam Preparation: Since you have an important exam coming up in June, it is crucial to focus on subjects that will be tested while also enhancing your portfolio. Consider taking additional courses or workshops related to art and design if available.

4. Building Your Portfolio: As you prepare for high school applications, start building a portfolio showcasing your artwork and any design projects you’ve completed. This will be beneficial not only for high school admissions but also later when applying for university programs or jobs.

5. Seeking Guidance: Talk to teachers or professionals already working in the field of graphic design or art direction. They can provide valuable insights into what skills are most important and how best to prepare yourself during high school.

By focusing on these steps and selecting a high school with strong art programs, you will be well-positioned to pursue your goal of becoming an art director.
