What do you think suits me best as a future career. My name is Tiana Marie , A junior in HS, others may describe me as lively, communicative, and happy I don't have much skill in hands on work and I tend to be unorganized sometimes and when I am it causes me to be overwhelmed. I am driven to aim to work on my time management and how I cope this. I am extremely interested in Law but secretly have a passion for writing (poems and any creative writing) , I do well with public speaking/hosting, and I also have interest in acting or maybe even directing ( I came across a job description for a creative director and found interest in this as well) I refuse to settle for a low pay rate as anyone else I want to reach for the highest success possible. How do I reach the goals above listed (College inputs? Internships? Jobs? Money Management? Any Ideas) I am honestly just looking for a source that will help me with direction and here might be best! Thanks PS... I also have a love for fashion dressing up and correlating outfits/shoes/beauty AND AM NOT A FAN OF TECHNOLOGY! also consider I have an average GPA score

Michelle’s Answer

Hello, Tiana Marie !

I am very happy to see that you have so many interests in possible careers ! Law, Writing, Acting, Directing, and Fashion Stylist are all awesome career interests that are driven by passion for having to do them not just wanting or thinking about it. My advice is to begin getting experience or education with one of the choices now, something that you could do with your college major. You'll have to choose one to start out with (except you can do the Writing all the time) and learn more about so you can get a degree in it. For Law, you'd have to go to four years of college plus three years of Law School.

Instead of thinking that you have to only do one your whole lifetime, realize that you can do different things at different times of your life. It is recommended to get a degree for all the career interests you have, but the reality is you can major in one with a minor. What stands out in this case is the Law and the Fashion Stylist. Maybe this year delve further into these two to see if you actually would spend 4 - 7 years in college. For Fashion, you could go to a Fashion School or a college that offers degrees in Fashion.

The others, Writing, Acting and Directing, don't actually need degrees, rather training and experience in order to make a career out of it. So start researching the careers that require a degree and train for the others in the community and through experience. While you are in college, you can still write, audition for plays and put yourself out there as a Stylist to gain clientele and experience. It's just a matter of choosing the degree-worthy subjects and just getting experience with those that do not require a degree, rather experience. You have plenty of time to get the feel for what would be best for you to do. Do not feel anxious about it or that you have to decide tomorrow. Take it all one step at a time.

Something that you can do now for Fashion Styling is create your online portfolio of styles on Trend Me dot net (LINK IS BELOW). It is free to register. You can style outfits on there with clothing and accessories, props and graphics already there or ones you upload. Under your creations, people give feedback on your styles, so it would be great to print out your styles with the "reviews" for them. It is one of the most supportive online sites you will ever participate at. There is also the opportunity to ask specific fashion style questions which the members can respond to. It would provide a lot of inspiration for you. It is international so there are talents on there from all over the world !

So basically see which one of the subjects you like becomes tangible first. No matter what it is, you can always do the writing and acting if that comes up. Don't think of everything all at once, rather let it unfold naturally, and have fun !

I wish you all the best and never stop your tenacious ambition that I believe will take you far !
