Hi Liam,
Great question! I'd like to start the answer with this question: what does excite you about software engineering? what are you curious about? What's the problem that you'd like to solve?
I believe that by answering one of these questions can lead up to discover an interest within the engineering software aspect, as software engineering can lead to many roads, it's always more meaningful to lead with curiosity or risk-taking.
If you go in with that type of mindset, it will lead to getting more out of the project than just the solution.
Hope this helps!
Best,
Relics.

Hey Liam,
I'm not an SWE by trade but rather someone that kind of tinkers with coding from time to time. For me it's going from idea to actually executable code. Getting the computer to actually do what you are intending it to do is a very rewarding feeling. You get it that first time you get "hello world" but every time you iterate through why something might not be working like you want and finally figure it out. It's awesome.

In high school, I played a lot of video games and I really loved the problem solving aspect to them. Trying to figure out how to solve a puzzle or make it through a level. I have found similar enjoyment in software engineering. I find the problem solving part very interesting, figuring out how to write code to solve the user's problem.
