What’s the difference between a LMSW(license master in social work) and a LCSW(license clinical in social work) ?

Both are Master's degree level but an LMSW (Licensed Masters Social Worker) typically provides social work services under supervision. An LMSW has completed a graduate program in SW and passed the licensure exam but has not yet completed the required clinical supervision for an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker). In order to apply for the Clinical License and take the clinical exam a candidate must already have obtained a Masters degree in SW and completed 3500 hours of social work under the supervision of an approved LCSW. An LCSW can independently provide clinical services like therapy and diagnosis, including providing services in private practice.
