Self-motivation is one of the hardest skills to develop—and even harder to teach—but it's absolutely essential to start building those habits early! One strategy I’ve found really helpful is scheduling your time intentionally. Take your to-do list and actually block off time on your calendar—treat those tasks like meetings or appointments with yourself. When it’s time to focus, turn off your notifications, eliminate distractions, and commit to knocking out just one thing. Long to-do lists can feel overwhelming, so try breaking them down and prioritizing: What needs to be done today? Tomorrow? This week? Keep your lists manageable, and revisit them every morning. It also helps to build in small rewards for completing tasks—something to look forward to and keep you motivated. Not every day will feel productive, and that’s okay. Some days are harder than others, but consistency is key. Just like practicing a new skill or sport - practice, practice, practice! Another technique I’ve found effective is the Pomodoro method: set a timer for 25 minutes of focused work, then take a 5-minute break. It’s a great way to stay engaged and focused!
