How do I put myself out there in the art world as an aspiring Illustrator?
#Spring25 I'm about to transfer to CSUF and try to get into their illustration program because of my love for storytelling. I want to do concept design and art for creative projects as well as be able to make comics of my own. I want to know what I can do to make these dreams a reality.

Dear Isabel,
It sounds like you are on exactly the right path, so just keep on a goin' Girl! Don't get caught up on the erroneous idea that success is only measured in fame and fortune. For the greatest of artists, fame and fortune don't come in large quantities in this life. Just look at Vincent Van Gogh and his life and work as a good reference point. Ask yourself, "Is a moment of Fame or Fortune more important to me than an Everlasting good influence and example for my friends and family?" Just be yourself, learn as much as you can, share your gifts and talents openly, and you will find Everything and Everyone you could ever wish for and more.
I understand how powerful that "Look at Me!" draw is. I feel it pulling on my heart to some extent every single day. Don't give into that, please! It's not the best way. If you want to be seen, first learn to See. Look deep inside yourself and try to figure out what it is that you Really want and then learn to begin Giving that to others. If you do, you will begin seeing what Real magic feels like and you might even see what it looks like as well.

Wyatt

Hey there!
Try starting your own website displaying your artwork. Make sure people can view your work for free!
You can also try submitting to certain magazines!
That might be a good start!

You need a strong portfolio of at least 6 samples, showing range and variety if possible ( more options for you!).
I love concept illustrations because they are wide open, no restrictions yet ( budget, etc)- they are a beginning.
The successful concept illustrator understands that COMMUNICATION is at the heart of the project- you are hired to interpret a need, get a design brief, and then to bring that concept to life through your artwork.
Listening and understanding what the client wants is almost as important as the finished piece!(example: a beautifully designed castle isn’t helpful if the story takes place in a cottage).
Good Luck!
