Rachit (Richi)’s Answer

There are 3 steps:

1. Earn a bachelor’s degree and (optionally) a master’s degree in psychology.
2. Earn a PsyD or PhD in psychology.
3. Get licensed to practice psychology in your state.

Sarah’s Answer

Hello Jorge,

To become a doctor of psychology in the United States, you would need to earn a bachelors degree in Psychology with high marks. Then you would need to obtain either a masters in counseling psychology or a doctorate of philosophy (PhD) or doctorate of psychology (Psy.D.) to move forward. This would also involve a dissertation, internship, and postdoc position in research. Then finally, you would need to pass the licensing exam in your state to practice as a psychologist.

Hope this helps!
