In the Dallas area a new graduate which is not licensed yet would be earning around $35,000 per year. Once you become licensed, that could jump by $10,000 to start.

You are so young that passion more that money should guide you career decision now. I agree with the answers above as in any other artistic endeavor interior design required a great deal of passion for what you do. If you have the passion and dedication the money would come. Like any other career is you lack in the passion side you'll make a living but pretty sure you'll be just mediocre.
Right now find as more info as possible from Interior Design firms, blogs, designers in different fields and even design student. With this direct info you'll be able to feel if you have the call for design of maybe you'll find something else in the way.

Hi Samuel,
Interior design like other design disciplines requires commitment and dedication. It is one of the disciplines that is directly affected by construction decline. I advise you to find an interior design firm and see if you can shadow an interior designer even for a day, to see what their work day looks like.
Take on a passion and make it your life work without putting money as your primary motivation. Devote your life and work to your passion, and it will not seem like work. When people see your passion, success will surely follow.

Hi, Samuel. Salaries for Interior Designers often varies by region. The other variable is the size of the firm you work for or whether you are working independently. Interior Design has to be your passion. As with many occupations, especially related to the arts, you must first simply love what you do. It's a field where you can certainly make a living but may never be wealthy. Since it is so closely tied to the economy and construction, it is often a feast or famine occupation. Which is exactly why you must be passionate about your work and your accomplishments be more important than salary.
