What is the pay-off of being a social worker?

My interest has always been in helping people. Will I get to see that in a career in social work? Will I truly be making a difference in people's lives? #social-work #social-worker #social-services

Social work is a broad range, you can surely do a lot in helping others.  There are also many other careers where you can help others.  The tip I have is to find out what areas you want to help in i.e. counseling, development or life assistance.  Once you find that out then you want to decide what profession you're most passionate about when it comes to helping others.  I also love helping others and I do that currently by leading, motivating and developing employees at my job.  So, find out what you're most passionate about and go from there.  Good luck!

Thank you comment icon Be a teacher. Teach and educate as many people as possible. It will pay you well and you can do a lot for society. As a Nazi camp survivor mentioned:: “I am a survivor of a concentration camp. My eyes saw what no person should witness: gas chambers built by learned engineers. Children poisoned by educated physicians. Infants killed by trained nurses. Women and babies shot by high school and college graduates. So, I am suspicious of education. My request is: Help your children become human. Your efforts must never produce learned monsters, skilled psychopaths or educated Eichmanns. Reading, writing, and arithmetic are important only if they serve to make our children more human.” Farheen Anis

Jacqueline’s Answer

Social work is challenging but rewarding at the same time for yourself and the person you are helping. You can make a huge impact in someone's life by helping them emotionally, mentally, and improving their life.

Simeon’s Answer

Yes, you'll actually be able to see people's lives changed in social work. Not all non-profits do an effective job of reaching out to help people, but if your heart is set on making a difference, you'll avoid most of those pitfalls. It's also important to remember that the positive change you'll see in others' lives will often happen at a slow pace, so don't get discouraged if the change you're hoping for doesn't happen right away.

Shanna’s Answer

Social work can be a very rewarding and emotionally challenging life. Stepping in and helping a child in an abusive relationship to protect them from harms way. If you feel the need to help people this would be a good platform.
