Marlyse,

This sort of depends on the time of day and the traffic patterns for your area. There can always be a major accident that sets you back an hour. If you are driving during rush hour, or through New Orleans, there's no telling! I would plan to be real early, that way you are not stressed when you get there! It gives you time to review your material before class, work on homework , grab a snack, visit with friends, etc. I was commuting last year during the evening rush hour. I had 45 miles (mostly interstate), 3 train tracks, and a university that was doing major construction. Just getting to the parking lot once I got to campus was the worst part of it all! I usually made it in an hour, but allowed myself two. It was perfect! The important thing is to make good use of your time. And to keep your car in good running condition, of course!

It all depends on how much time you need to settle in and be ready for class. I don't do well running in 2 minutes before something starts. I usually evaluate my commute time (how long in regularly take to get to destination with no delays). Then add 30-40 minutes to allow for unexpected delays. Then add 15 - 20 minutes to get settled. If I'm early that's fine, there is always something I can do to use the time. Prefer that to being late.

I arrive to campus 10 minutes before my classes start. You can use Google Maps/Apple Maps to get an estimate as to how long your commute is going to be. It is going to take some time to figure out when rush hour traffic is by your school. Rush hour traffic is going to depend where your school is located. Rush hour traffic will add time to your commute (depending on when you arrive/leave to campus).
