Hi Josh, I was a former HS teacher and I would spend a good amount of my Sunday preparing lessons for the courses I was teaching. Lesson prep depends on the length of each course and the dynamics of the students. I was prepping for HS Technology courses that were 80-minute blocks and would have a diverse population of learners - some with EIP's and 504's. So my lessons would need to be modified. You have to come up with a Do Now activity to open the lesson, depth of knowledge questions, and differentiated activities to keep all learners motivated. I mostly gave hands-on assignments and projects. You would also need to come up with an exit ticket/closing which could entail recapping the lesson with a question, etc. Teaching was not easy! I know because I did it for almost 17 years. I also spent most of August in the summer preparing for the next school year. I taught subjects that constantly changed so I would have to revise the curriculum and develop new courses and materials. Again, lesson planning is a critical piece of teaching and I would spend 1 day a weekend prepping and then I'd have to put the lesson plan in the online portal my school used to submit to my building principal for review.
Anne Marie, this is great advice! My daughter is a new high school Math teacher and she spends her Sundays preparing for her lessons as you once did. She now has a good routine and prepping seems to be less stressful.

Thank you! Teaching is a tough profession - a lot of work and one so underappreciated. All it takes is reaching that 1 student! I have to say there are times I really miss it and spending my time with young adults. It can also be a very rewarding profession. Good Luck to your daughter!
