Roger’s Answer

It's a tough question to answer as it all really comes down to inspiration, a good sense of design, an eye for composition, experience and good mastery of the software and systems at hand. If a designer has all of the above, it shouldn't take more than a few hours to put some solid ideas onto the screen that can take more time to refine, polish and enhance. Sorry for the vague answer, but it's almost like asking how long it takes an average mechanic to fix an average car. Depends. :-)

Hi Jesse,

That's an interesting question.
When pursuing an education or career in design-related areas, one of your characteristics would be creativity. It is the base for any design project. The question is very general, so there is no specific answer directly to your question, however I would look at it from a project and timing perspective. Inspiration, innovation and open mindedness are key drivers to good design. Some projects would require a few hours/days whereas others would require weeks and months of efforts - finding your inspiration would definitely help the flow and speed of work.
As for deadlines, it is crucial to be accurate and deliver on time. Organising yourself would help you achieve your goals on time if not before. Set yourself time for each phase, and allow a good amount of time for feedbacks and round of edits before setting your final delivery date.

Being a graphic designer requires mental and technical efforts, but the end result is always very pleasing as you get to see your own work come to life, and it would be aesthetically pleasing.

Best of luck!

Giselle’s Answer

Hi Jesse, this really depends on couple things.

1) If you are working for an advertising agency, it is usually a very fast turn around time because the designers have more than one client on their task dashboard and the deadlines are set by account executives via clients' demand and marketing plan launch times. I worked for a design agency in Los Angeles for 5 years and we were getting multiple revisions per design and sometimes the full design delivery can take from 5-7 days.

2) If you are a freelancer, the deadlines again change per client demand and their asks for a revision. The full design delivery can take up to 15-30 days. It is more flexible work and you definitely have more control on the timing part since you will be talking with the client directly.

The designs of websites and custom pages can take longer because after the designer designs, the UX team comes on board and later it moves to the developer's desk. Final presentation usually is done by a client manager to the client and client signs off when they are happy.
