chris’s Answer

Hello, I chose to be a mechanic because at a early age I understood complex machinery. In other words I liked taking things apart and putting them back together. I liked fixing things. I also learned early on that I loved racing. I think my love for racing drove my passion for mechanics. I have had much success racing and working on vehicles. I'm 48 years old and still race and am currently working for Cummins as a Mechanical Engineering Technical Support Specialist. When I got out of Lincoln Technical Institute in 1992 and someone told me I would be at Cummins doing what I'm doing I wouldn't have believed it. I will have to say it hasn't been easy but it sure has been interesting. I also wanna say I work hard because it doesn't seem like work to me and I think its because its what I love to do. I think that is the real goal. Finding what you love to do. I got lucky and found that early in my life. I think I will always do something like this because its what I do. I hope this helps and good luck with your future.

Philip’s Answer

Auto Mechanics is a terrific field to be in, for one, there will always be someone who needs vehicle repair. It challenges you due to the fact that learning never stops, someone always adds technologies to the vehicles and you have to take classes to adapt and continue in the profession. There's something to identifying the problem and fixing it that is just satisfying. I served in the United States Air Force as a Special Purpose Heavy Equipment Vehicle Mechanic working on everything from Snow Plows, to pickup trucks including a 4 month tour in Riyadh Saudi Arabia.
