Computer scientists play major roles in the field of scientific research. For example computer scientists program and design robots to do a number of functions, create computational models of neurons and circuits to test theories of brain function, analyze biological data using programs such as Matlab and NEURON. These are just some of many options.

1. Computer Architectures - Computer system design itself to large scale parallel processing computer server design and development.
2. Computer Languages - Improve existing computer languages Java/C etc or create a new one
3. Computer Algorithms - to improve the speed of problem solving or create new way of solving some complex problems. Applicable in all kinds of industries, OIL, aeronautics, finance etc.
3. Computer networking - how to connect all kinds of devices to the networks phones/computers/robots/manufacturing etc.
4. Computer databases - All kinds of applications from that store data, retrieve faster and effectively like google, amazon, FB etc.
5. Artificial Intelligence - Robotics, data analytics and machine learning
6. Image processing - lot of medical imaging enhancements programming
7. Mobile computing -
8. Cloud computing
9. Application programming
Almost all of them are in demand. They also seem to pay handsomely for those with the right qualification and right aptitude .
So, if you are inclined just enroll in a computer science program at a school of your preference, and apply yourself and do well. You will learn about all these things or many more things just interacting with others like yourself, seniors, professors, industry speakers, campus recruiting teams etc. Get some internships in the later years to try some out.
