Graham’s Answer

Enjoyment from providing computer support can come in a multitude of ways. I had an interest in computers growing up and always considered turning that interest into a career in information technology (IT). Working in IT sets you on a path for career advancement and likely much more financial stability. When thinking specifically about a computer support position, I enjoyed the following:

  1. Helping others to succeed with technology
  2. Continuously acquiring new skills to help throughout your entire career
  3. No two days are alike; there are new and exciting challenges to look forward to
  4. The art and team effort of troubleshooting and problem solving
  5. Providing solutions to increase effectiveness and efficiency of the company
  6. Interaction with colleagues

Many think of IT as a field for programmers or tech support representatives. You’ll be thrilled to know that’s just the tip of the iceberg! There’s a role for everyone in IT. Take a look at the following article to learn more: How to Start an IT Career

I will leave you with a quote from Aristotle that has always stayed with me. "Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work."

Graham recommends the following next steps:

Seek out relevant coursework in school
Obtain relevant IT certifications

David’s Answer

The best part about my job is the sense of accomplishment I feel when I craft a successful solution. It might take a few hours, several days, or even weeks, but when the solution my team and I have worked on springs to life and operates smoothly, it's incredibly satisfying. Sure, there are times when we have to burn the midnight oil or work through the weekend to meet a deadline. It can be a bit stressful, but the thrill of achievement at the end is absolutely worth it.
