What kinds of jobs/careers can I pursue with an architectural & engineering design degree?

As of the date that I have wrote this question, I have been at Job corps for a little over a week, and through the MYPACE program have learned that I would want to look into pursuing a career path towards architectural and engineering design. Because of this, I am wondering what kind of interesting kinds of jobs/careers I could find in this career category.

Adam’s Answer

Beyond being an architect who designs buildings other options on the consulting side might be: an interior architect, interior designer, mechanical or structural engineer. Or you could be an industrial designer who designs furniture, or fixtures for commercial spaces. On the operations side, you could be a property or operations manager for complex, large commercial properties. Cities also employ building inspectors and engineers to approve or verify the work of commercial architects and designers.

Adam recommends the following next steps:

Look at learning Autodesk AutoCad, Revit, or blubeam brewery. In this field you will be spending a lot of time with one of these computer aided drafting programs.
Maybe inquire about shadowing/interning at an architectural firm, an interior design firm, or an engineering consultancy.
Learn to read architectural drawings. You can find lots on the internet. As-builts, issued for permit, issued for construction.
Architectural degrees generally require strong math/physics skills. If you are still in high school invest in these electives.
