I worked part time mig welding back in 1975. I was 16 years old in trade school. It probably depends on your local town bylaws. You can ask your guidance counselor if you’re still in school but if you’re not in school the answer is possibly 18 years old.

Start out as young as possible, if a family member or friend is able to teach you and given the opportunity. At 16 you can hire on and begin to work for a company, you will start off as a helper.
