Do you need cooking experience to go to a Cooking Academy?
I have no cooking experience at all, I've never taken any classes and I've never really cooked much but I want to be a chef. Do I need any experience at all? Is it okay to not have any or should I think about some other major? #chef #cooking #help

Christine,
It is always good to have experience before you enter a field. In fact that is what employers are looking for when they scan your cover letter and resume. Fortunately in the culinary field they actually appreciate those who they can train because it means you can diversify and keep up with their ever changing itinerary of meals. But you should know the basics like cutting, slicing, chopping, boiling and frying as well as understanding temperatures and sterilizing cooking devices prior to entering a Cooking Academy. There are various ways of doing one thing so you have to be equipped. All in all your passion will keep you going and progressing and a humble demeanor will always keep you afloat. I wish you the best on your journey.

Speaking from experience, you do not need any previous experience to get in to a culinary school. Like many schools, if you claim to have the passion, and are willing to pay the bills, you can get into a culinary school.
It is not easy to succeed, since many individuals will have previous experience and more knowledge. This should not not keep you from following your passion in the kitchen. Culinary school can either be a place to hone your skills in preparation for becoming a chef or it can be a place to start your journey in working in the food industry.
Just remember, the life of a chef is not always glamorous. It takes hard work, dedication, creativity, and above all else, an extreme passion for food.
