Brian’s Answer

What got me inspired to start welding? Well for starters, what other job in the world can you play with fire and electricity to melt metal and join materials together? I can’t think of one off hand. All kidding aside, I started welding because my father and grandfather were welders in our trade. We’re part of a Steamfitters Union. Welding is just a tool of the trade. Sure you can sit under the hood day in and day out, but sometimes that can get very boring. Try to find a trade that incorporates welding into it. Iron workers, Steamfitters, Pipeliners etc.

Jeffrey’s Answer

I got into welding because I needed a skill that would get me a job which pays enough to take care of my family and myself. Most people shy away from welding because the sparks and noise scares them. What they don’t know is that once you drop that good and strike your arc, everything is zoned out! Your focus on manipulating the weld puddle to the kind of weld you want to produce to join metal together is all you see. It’s a skill and and art. I’m glad I made that choice to become a welder, it’s been a good career and now I am a Welding inspector and instructor.

William’s Answer

At the age of 13 my uncle had me pick up a torch and start brazing. I fell in love with the act of watching the puddle and fabrication work. I don't think of welding as work it's something I enjoy.
