It seriously depends on whether or not the career you have in mind would be better served with a college degree. If you are interested in the culinaryarts and becoming a chef, then before you go consider a standard university, perhaps you should look into the culinary institute. See what options are out there other than a 4 year university. Not every career needs a college degree; however, college can teach you many things. It won't teach you how to be a good chef, but it can teach you how to run a business. So if you're interested in owning your own restaurant one day, then college could help you learn the skills required to run one. If you are just thinking that you want to be a chef in someone else's restaurant, so that you don't have to deal with the business side of things and you are only interested in the creative parts of the food industry, then I think culinary school is where it's at. Like I said initially, it all depends on where you see your future headed.

as in any trip, it depends on where you want to go the road you take ...
college will also give you some skills that will help you in any job ... not just tools or subjects like math, by going to college you will learn for example to be creative when looking for solutions to problems, that is not a tool, but a skill that will help you in any field and throughout your professional and personal life
