Estelle’s Answer

The biggest thing I can think of is a hunger for science and technology. Its one thing to get the degree and the job, but another to love the degree and job and make a difference. This field is large and getting bigger all the time. Dont focus narrowly but take lots of science, math, and physics courses. You will be involved in a lifetime of learning especially if you get into quantum computing or AI. Consider getting your masters degree also.

Chris’s Answer

I think a strong sense of analytics. If you constantly analyze things a lot, even in your everyday life, you may succeed here. Even more today, we are using analytic software to engage our applications, but we still have to configure it and then analyze the results.

There are many other skills that are important as well, as the others have stated above.

William R’s Answer

A big skill that you want to keep strong is your thirst for knowledge and unending curiosity. If you often find yourself asking questions like:
"How did they do that?"
"Why did they do it that way?"
"You know... If we tried..."
Always feed that curiosity gene and never stop asking questions!

Active Listening - People typically know what they want but sometimes are unable to define it in today's technical speak.
Technical Writing - Gear up on Tech Writing. There are loads of free courses out there.

Emilyn’s Answer

For me, the most important thing is to be an analytic person and never give up. Because you will find too many challenges that will make you bad, and sometimes anyone will not believe that you are capable. So, move in on, and trying to do your best, doesn't matter what challenges you will face in front. And, behind it, you should be passionate about technology and always be prepared to learn all your career.

Ed’s Answer

Aside from acquiring a deep knowledge and understanding of systems and technologies, you would have to have great communication and analytical skills. Communication skills mean you are able to both effectively listen and express your thoughts and observations. As an analyst, you will be asked to document systems and processes. These are typically done through research and interacting with people who are involved or working on these systems and processes. But I believe, talking and interacting with people will give you much deeper understanding and provide more insights compared to just looking at available documentation. Having the deeper understanding and more insights lend to a better analysis of these systems and processes. Analytical skills, for me, means your ability to see and all sides of a system or a process. It's akin to looking at it in 3D. Having this perspective helps you with formulating creative observations, recommendations and solutions.

I hope this helps and good luck!

Ed recommends the following next steps:

Look into all those effective communication and writing classes.
