Besides digging deep to learn as much as you can in your chosen engineering field, become indispensable in your chosen industry. Constantly study the processes that your industry & company uses to achieve results. Develop a deep network within the company & industry so you will know who to contact for help with your projects. Glenn’s Answer

Not sure if you can achieve perfect, but to be an excellent engineer is possible. In school, learn the fundamentals, take the courses that make you have projects that allows you to apply what you have learned, and apply for coop or internships. After you are working, continue to learn and do research, use the senior engineers as mentors, challenge them and have them challenge you. Always pay attention as to what others say, even if they don't have an engineering background they may still provide great solutions.

As mentions by the other feedback, it is not only important that you know what the best engineering solution is, you need to convince others. Communication skill and understanding the corporate culture is also critical to your success.

Abe’s Answer

A perfect engineer is one that continuously learns, and improves through experience. I would suggest becoming insatiably curious about the fields of engineering that you are interested in, and going above what is required from your course work. Read trade journals, magazines related to your field, research papers to learn about the state of the art in your field, deep dive into a topic you enjoy, find mentors or like minded people and exchange ideas, and try to intern at a company to learn more from people doing the work in the field.

Good luck!

Alexis K.’s Answer

In order to be a perfect engineer, I think you should first take all the math courses you can, take computer courses, drafting and design courses, and do a lot of internships and co-ops where you are able to apply and practice the things you learn in your coursework in the real world at an engineering company. Also it is good to do your own research to narrow down what type of engineer you want to become and focus on that, for example software engineers, architectural engineers, civil engineers, and so on. It is good to keep in touch with advisors and instructors as well, ask questions and study to learn all you can about your field, new concepts and technologies as well.
