Kapil’s Answer

An officer of a bank become a Manger after gaining some experience and after getting through some departmental examination.

One can become a manager by cracking P.O.(Probationary Officer) exam generally conducted by SBI and IBPS(Institute of Banking Personal selection).

The eligible candidate aspiring for SBI/IBPS P.O. Exam, must be an Indian national having completed Graduation in any stream of education from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation for reserved candidate.

Some Private banks required percentage of marks criteria in Graduation more then 50 to 60% marks to qualify for their P.O. exam.

You can choose any domain in your graduation and later clear the exams conducted by the IBPS or SBI to get into the banking sector. All the best.

Katya’s Answer

Hi Janaki, this is a great field and can certainly open many opportunities down the road. I am currently working as a Bank Manager, some job titles I had were Market Manager, Financial Center Manager.

I have graduated with Bachelor Degree in Business Administration/Marketing. I think working as a Bank Manager you could study any degree and the reason for it is because as a Branch Manager/Leader of your Store- you will need to do the following. Coach your associates to performance standards, deliver exceptional customer experience, learn operations, volunteer within your community- ,ets- so any degree that you will pursue will just give you a step forward-however where you truly receive your experience is on the job training and situational training. College will give you the basic but the real life of a Bank Manger only as a strong as the skill level set of competencies and the years of experience and of course I believe if you have great mentors they will guide you on your accelerator path .

Also,as banking careers do change and the format is changing it’s important to continue to learn and develop new skills- you should pursue Master Degree especially if your company that you are working for is paying for y]the school tuition. Also, there are so many certificates now available online such as : becoming a Scrum Master or an agile/scrum master or a money coach- all these additional skill level will only put you one step ahead and also allow you to participate in many other fields and not just the retail.

Hope this helps.

Tracy’s Answer

Hello Janaki. My experience ranges from working as a bank teller, to managing a branch and now an agricultural lending group. In my experience, a General Business Finance/Administration degree will provide the best well -rounded education to best serve your clients. While your expertise in Finance, as a Branch Manager, will be expected, your clients will also expect you to understand their business needs, and you will need to understand how to read legal documentation, issues around estate planning and tax implications that may impact your clients.
