You have production welding, which you are on an assembly line and make the same weld in the same position all day every day.
You have more like unit production in which you weld a whole unit I.e. dump truck bed, armored car body, and other equipment in which you build the same unit but weld in different positions and encounter different issues.
Structure welder build buildings
Pipeline welders
Ship welders
I personally have built armored vehicles at my former job. I currently specialize in weld repair at a large crane company... its random what I’ll be working on. I could be repairing a 2.5million pound capacity crane, a hand rail for the front office or fabricating new components for heavy haul and lift equipment.

I’ve been working as a metal fabricator for ten years and have focused mostly on metal sculpture... I have got to travel all over the country for pieces of art I made, most famously the “celebration” piece at Louisiana state university by the design center... My favorite piece was a sculpture made of steel and glass in Sedona az that I sold for 17 thousand... If you have the creative drive and love what you do, everything will work itself out... I did production welding for a year and was absolutely demoralized but kept persevering with sculpture on the side... Now I can finally say I followed my dream
