The most popular 3D modeling software are Blender, Maya, and 3ds Max. Maya and 3ds Max are more commonly used in the industry (in professional game studios), but they are both quite pricey. Blender, on the other hand, is free and has a great community behind it to help you learn! I would start with Blender. There are plenty of great Blender tutorials available for free on YouTube (for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPrnSACiTJ4)
If you're interested in learning to make games in general, the most popular software are Unity and Unreal. Both are free and have great learning resources for beginners (for example: https://learn.unity.com). Both Unity and Unreal will allow you to import models you create in Blender or other modeling software.
Download and install Blender (https://www.blender.org/download).
Learn the basics with a free tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPrnSACiTJ4).

Maya and Zbrush and Max are the most commonly used software packages in the industry. Maya has an LT version along with a student version that allows you to use a free copy but with some limitations. I am not sure about Zbrush and Max with student offerings.

Python should be the best coding language if you are thinking of coding yourself. Especially for making game python language should be easier compared to the others. To add more you should learn the animation and be able to link it together with the codes created.

Central to the project is the O*NET database, containing hundreds of standardized and occupation-specific descriptors on almost 1,000 occupations covering the entire U.S. economy. The database, which is available to the public at no cost, is continually updated from input by a broad range of workers in each occupation. The Occupational Information Network (O*NET) is developed under the sponsorship of the U.S. Department of Labor/Employment and Training Administration

You need to learn a 3d application (Maya/3dsMax/Blender) as well as a Game Engine (Unity/Unreal). Those 2 should give you a good starting point for your foray into the world of video game design. Also will me super helpful to also know the basics of any kind of coding language.(Python e.t.c.)
