I want to have a job using computers, but i don't know of any jobs out there that interest me.

I'm not good at coding and editing code definitely ain't happening, I wouldn't even know where to start. I do however love to make videos, even though what I know about editing videos is minimal at the moment I want to do more. I also love making powerpoints that look amazing. #computer #videos #OBS #editing #powerpoint

Hi Roger, good for you! Expertise in utilizing advanced software tools/functions for presentations is in HIGH demand. Need is in multiple areas: education, entertainment, entreprenuers...you could begin a youTube channel.

Education within corporations is an area you might not have known about! It's critical that products that are created by an engineering/business team are then marketed, documented and made into training and tutorials for Marketing, Sales as well as Service.

Camtasia is the leading tool utilized within the Tech arena; there are free alternatives: CamStudio, EzVid or Webinaria to mention a few. youtube is widely used.

Ask one of your teachers if you might assist them in creating online presentations of their content? Collaborate with them to see what they're using these days in order to "teach" while at home.

bridget recommends the following next steps:

google jobs that require: video editing, video graphics, eLearning. You'll see the kinds of positions that are out there as well as the other desired skills to accompany your creative side ?)

A few things that immediately jump to mind given what you've listed:

1) Over the last few years, there's been an explosion of online video content creators on YouTube and other online video platforms. That would seem the obvious fusion of computing and video editing. It's a very saturated world, however, so it's unlikely to be a job for you straight away. There's no reason you can't give it a try, though. Find a niche for yourself, and if it's something people want to watch, you can gradually grow an audience. Don't expect anything guaranteed, so if you need an income now, you'll need a "real" job in the meantime, but it could grow to being a full job.

2) More traditionally, video editing is a skill widely used in the entertainment and broadcast industries; TV studios, news broadcast, film studios, animation, even video games. Perhaps look for apprenticeships, internships and the like in those sorts of places for video editing roles.

3) If you want to more heavily lean on the computers side of thing rather than the video editing, there's IT support. General first-line tech support can be tedious and stressful, but if you picked one of the aforementioned types of company, having interest and knowledge of the type of work they're doing with video editing and of the types of software package they're using could be a foot-in-the-door, and could lead on to bigger things.

I'm sure there's plenty of other possibilities; those are just a few that immediately came to mind.

More and more jobs involve using computers. With COVID19, people are working at home and we couldn't do that without having computers avaialable to us.

You say you love powerpoints. As other folks pointed out, there's the video angle you can explore through publishing and editiong your own YouTube content but website design and development is somthing else to explore that might play to your powerpoint strengths. There are tools that you can use to generate good websites without having to know programming skills.

Graphic design would be another good thing to look into that can leverage your powerpoint skills.

Another critical career choice would be testing of computer hardware or computer software. There is a heavy reliance on testing that doesn't require testing and it's important for all hardware/software development.

Something else that popped into my mind is usability testing researcher. This looks at things from the user's perspective to determine if the thing you're testing is easy to use/understand by the users.

As you can see from this answer and the answers from others, there's a wide variety of jobs that will allow you to use computers in your career. Look at the things you enjoy doing and ask yourself, what role do computers play in that? Keep asking others for advice. Do more research into specific areas that might be interesting to you.

There are so many things you could do with video editing and powerpoint type skills. Training, pre-sales, documentation, corporate communications to name a few. Do a bit more of a deep dive into these types of skills and look at current jobs that look for these skills. Find out some of them that interest you and look at those careers. The important part is to look for a job that interests you and will keep you interested and motivated. You want to do what you are passionate about and love what you do. That is the perfect job.

I have worked as a designer for almost 20 years and during this time I used my graphic design skills and applied them to Powerpoint Presentations. It's not glamorous work but if you know a company's brand and have design skills you can be very important within an organization. Becoming good at coding takes time like anything else.

It would be great to explore opportunities/passions that relate to video editing? Maybe brainstorm some ideas around what interests you with video editing and maybe narrow it down to a particular area or topic? Also would be good to check out Colleges that teach you to improve your video editing skills? also doing online courses is a great way to be inspired and improve your video skills as well.

Powerpoint presentations? does public speaking interest you? if so maybe that is an area where you can link powerpoint presentations into?

David’s Answer

I understand your thinking for the very moment about being in the computer field and where to focus on, as of now you believe video editing and power point will be your strongest and coding, programming, and coding related is not your strength. I would recommend since you will be focusing on computer science as your major in college just take one step as a time because computer learning in high school and self learn is different what you will learn about in college, because in college the course is what and how you do it also you have someone to teaches you how it is done and not self learn or from basic understanding.

I am not focus on video editing or power point as my career but I do these things as a hobby as well for work presentation, during my time when I was in college, I did take several elective computer course to build on my computer skills as well trying to get a easy course to not waste time in using these software for related things.

There is a lot of jobs out there for video editing and power point if these are what you are mainly focusing on but if you are majoring in computer science, I would recommend spend a bit of time and see what you like in the field and go for it.
Thank you comment icon Just so I know, what are some jobs that have to do mainly or partially with video/photo editing and powerpoint? Roger
