What information do I need to find out to decide if my college is good in my program?

I am looking into psychology, and some colleges I'm looking into have more professors in that field and I don't know if that means they have a better program or not? I also don't know what kinds of questions I need to ask to find out how good their program is. #psychology #professor #counselor

Hi Kayleigh,

In my opinion and based on my personal experience I would say quality is better than quantity. That isn't to say that the programs with more professors will not also provide quality, but rather that you should base your decision more on other factors. I would suggest looking at the backgrounds of the professors into aspects such as where they have previously worked or gotten their psychology experience, what research they have conducted or are conducting, etc. It might also be a good idea to use websites such as LinkedIn to communicate with previous students to see what their experience was like with particular professors and what opportunities came from graduating from that particular program. Even ratemyprofessor.com can be useful in this situation. In my experience most professors have also been very open to responding to emails with questions about their individual interests in the field. Unfortunately there will always be flaws to an academic program but I have found it helps to focus on what you can do as a student to enhance your learning and experiential opportunities.

Best wishes!
