Hi Jordan! What an exciting career. I would recommend starting your career path now. Find a local TV station to see if you're able to shadow for a day, seek out mentors in the field to give advice, and start looking into internships (if available to high school students). I'm sure you already do this, but watch multiple sports analysts you love and determine what your broadcast style will be. Definitely select a college with a great broadcast journalism program and start getting internships your freshmen year. It's also important to know the production side of things, such as editing, field producing and all the behind-the-scenes magic to make a broadcast happen. Be prepared, you may need to move to smaller markets and TV stations to start your career for a few years, and then you can eventually work your way up in the field. As background, I wanted to be a sports reporter all through college and ended up loving the production side of things so much, I ended up staying behind the camera at ESPN, NBC Sports and X Games. It's such a fun and challenging career path!

Keep practicing, be positive and kind to everyone you work with and for, and continue to learn everything about "the biz." I wish you the best of luck and hope to see you as a sports analyst in the future!

Hey I would really suggest that you look into Ithaca College or Syracuse. Ithaca is my alma mater and they have a sports media major which would be perfect for you! Additionally, there is a student run television station and newspaper. I knew a lot of people who would get involved in ICTV, specifically in sports and it was great practice for the real thing. At Ithaca, you don't have to wait until your junior year to get in on the action.
