Rebecca’s Answer

Hi, thank you for your question.

I have been in software engineering for over 20 years in various different roles: Quality Engineer, Project / Program Manager, and as an Engineering Manager. This career has afforded me the opportunity to continually learn new technical, interpersonal, and leadership skills. I have had a lot of flexibility in trying and adapting new roles and processes. I have also, as a result of this career been able to travel to numerous countries around the world that I likely wouldn't have had the opportunity to visit in my life: places like Vietnam, Argentina, India, Uruguay.

I have stayed in this career for over 20 years because I am happy with it.

Heather’s Answer

I'm very happy with my career as a software engineer! There's a lot of flexibility and room to try different things, so I really enjoy the variety. Software engineering is a great job if you like to learn often and try new things. For example, I've been a traditional software engineer in the past, writing and reviewing code, but now I'm working towards becoming a UX researcher, which is someone who researches how people use software products with the intention of making the product better. If you like variety, I think you'll be happy in this field too!
