How committed do I need to be when declaring a major?

I am a junior getting ready to fill out college applications this summer. I don't know what I want to do with my life but most colleges require that you declare when you apply. How serious is this declaration and what will I need to do if I hate what I originally chose? #general

Khaneesha’s Answer

Choosing a college major is an evolutionary process. As you consider schools, it’s helpful to look at areas you’re most interested in at the moment but keep an open mind to other opportunities. Upon entering freshman year, it’ll be beneficial to choose gen ed courses that are applicable to the major/minor you’re leaning towards. That way you can meet those requirements early and also get a good idea about how much you’d actually like to continue studying that particular subject.

You can switch the day after you get accepted. Having said that, make sure to have an answer soon. You need to plan your career path. College isn't an excursion because if you treat it that way it is going to cost more in time and money.
