SIDDHARTHA’s Answer

Hello Moussa,

Engineering is a very wide subject. I am a software engineer with majors in Electronics Engineering. I love coding and creating new programs everyday. The job of an engineer is to make life a little easier. Any engineering job gives satisfaction or happiness at end of the day if you put your heart and soul in it. One has to love the job in order to be happy in it. If you love creating new things and want to fix something which is broken then Engineering is the right job. From Mega Cities to video games, Space ship to Fighter Jets, everything is designed and created by Engineering brains. So I don't see a reason why anyone would not like to be an Engineer.

Rola’s Answer

I am an industrial engineer with 12+ years of experience in consultations/software development/networking and sales. If I am again back to choose my specialization, I will choose engineering with no doubts. That's because I leverage my engineering sense in all situations and I find that engineers can fit in every place. It is not always in factories or constructions. In reality they can fit everywhere even in hospitals, education, NGOs and sales. The most important thing is be passionate and choose your specialization with a mindset that it is your lifetime specialization. Do not forget also to check the labor market and its opportunities for engineers in your local country.

Sandra’s Answer

Hi Moussa,

I am not an engineer but worked closely with many software engineers at Autodesk and I can tell you they all love their jobs and always seem to take it to the next level. Many of them work closely with the product managers to support the needs of the product and its delivery. They are also passionate about customer success and get involved in offering webinars and present at many conferences.

Catherine’s Answer

Hi Moussa,

I am a biomedical engineer who has worked with medical devices for 6 years and love what I do. I think you'll find that the majority of engineers enjoy their careers because you can finds ways to change industries or job functions with the right background and professional experience.

If you are interested in engineering but not sure what kind, you can think about it from two perspectives:

1) what products are you interested in? Medical, electronics, cars, aerospace, and computers are just some of the areas of specialization. If you enjoy the end product of your industry, you'll most likely enjoy the day to day tasks that come with your job.

2) what subjects are you interested in? Math, biology, physics, and chemistry are all foundations in engineering and if one peaks your interest the most, you can see what jobs require that concentration.

There are a ton of resources online to help you learn about engineering so I suggest you browse the internet yourself or ask a teacher or guidance counselor for help!
