Do other company’s collaborate with each other and how does that work out?

If the project is big such as a Movie, different agencies will work on different aspects of the project . This is done only if there are specific tasks that require specialization. If one agency can provide different services, then the client will usually choose that agency. This also applies for software design and videogame design. They usually will have a project manager that coordinates all this. The project manager would have to be hired directly by the client, who will be in charge of the meetings with all the different agencies and teams, coordinating their timelines (and deadlines) as well as all the bumps along the way.

Great! I have my degree in Graphic Design and have been in the industry for over 20 years. I've loved art and drawing for a long time! Take as many different art classes in high school. Then after high school I got my AA from a local community college, then transferred to a state college for my degree.

Networking in college, LinkedIn with local companies to do internships (paid or unpaid), this will get your name out there.

Hi Karen,

I have worked at 3 major film studios and a large ad agency in the Creative Service/Art Department for over 20 years. To answer your question, if you are referring to the creative work and collaboration, it's complicated. There are usually clients and vendors that make up the creative space. Clients are usually the managing side of the creative workspace that makes the decisions on how content is view, the scope of the project and who the target audience is etc. and what results they would like from the content being created. The vendor is the team that makes the actual creative content and looks to ensure that they fulfill the clients wishes. This relationship can be difficult when both sides don't see eye to eye and this kind of collaboration requires a lot of finesse to ensure communication is clear and on target to the execution of the creative request. Usually the art directors, who is usually on the client side, manage the vendors designers. They work directly with the designer ensure the designer fulfills the scope of the content requested. As a graphic designer it is your job to understand the creative direction provided by art director and implement that direction to the artwork you are creating. There are usually rounds of back and forth till the client reaches the desired outcome they are looking for. When you add in demanding timelines to when a project is due and you can see how communication and collaboration is essential to a successful project. The better you are at fulfilling the clients creative direction, the better graphic designer you are. (Note: this process can be within the same company, just the art director is the boss of designer, but the process is still the same.)

Typically, companies that need something from others have interaction or agreements with each other, but not all the time.
And when I say agreements, it could be economic, social or perhaps by trade agreements.
For example, if you have an industry and I have a corporation of whatever, and a third person has another company; together we can make an agreement to reforest a park or a forest and that's an social agreement.
