Hi Maria! I think being an effective communicator, empathetic, patient and objective is important. The individual who will be seeking care from you can have a difficult time in getting their thoughts out and having a personality that is easy going and understanding can be helpful. I also think passion is important to be a counselor/therapist because it takes time and dedication and with passion you will feel more motivated to help your patients. Empathy is widely regarded as an important component of successful counseling in most theoretical approaches to psychotherapy. Being empathetic ensures you are listening and dealing with the clients concerns effectively as they present them.
