As an engineer, how often do you have to find integrals and take derivatives when working on a project?

I am planning on becoming an electrical engineer. I am already pretty good at integrals and derivatives, but I wanted to know if they come up often or if it is more important to simply understand the relationships they show. #engineer

I would have to say integration and differentiation are an integral part of engineering. Let me give you a simple example: the area of a circle is (pi)(r)sq, circumference of a circle is 2(pi)(r), which is the derivative of the area of a circle. so you see, if you are trying to be an engineer, you will have to eat, drink and live integration and differentiation.

This really depends on what your job ends up being. Some may be more hands-on than others. I had to take Calc3, Linear, and DiffEQ in college for my Software Engineering degree and have not thought about integrals since I graduated. Knowing the concepts is important and depending on your actual job you may need to draw on it, but most of the time you would not have to be doing this work by hand.
