Hi! I would suggest looking into engineering if you are interested in NASCAR and autoracing. The teams need mechanical/ automotive engineers to help design and improve the cars. Since the career opportunities are limited if you only look into autoracing, engineering gives you a good degree to have to get a job in the auto industry and then work your way into autoracing. Still aim for going straight into what you are most interested in but it always helps to have a backup plan!
I would suggest looking into the teams you are interested and finding more information on what opportunities are currently available and start looking into those careers and what you need to get into the careers. Also, look to see if they have internship programs. Internships are a great way to learn about the company, career and get your foot in the door at the company.

Undergraduate Mechanical Engineering programs frequently work closely with automotive programs of all types, including building their own project cars/go karts for racing. My recommendation would be to angle yourself towards Mechanical Engineering, where you'll learn all the fundamental physical properties and thermodynamic processes that underpin cars. Combustion, engines, aerodynamics, heat transfer, mechanics, gearing, tooling, machining, and basic part design should all be covered in someway by a BS in Mechanical, as well as giving you access to the aforementioned student/faculty led automotive programs.
