There are lots of different jobs that involve fixing computers. I suggest determining which area you want to focus on first. Do you enjoy fixing software problems? Are you more interested in deploying and configuring new hardware? Have you considered learning about networking or security? If you're not sure, maybe start with an internship as a help desk technician to gain exposure in troubleshooting multiple different areas to learn which one suits you the best.

Hey Jermeral! If you want to get into the tech repair field or support. I would recommend getting some kind of certification. That'll help you stand out on your application to some extent. If you want to get into IT, you can't go wrong with a Network+ or A+ certification. Getting the certification will also give the necessary knowledge as well. If you want to get into actual hardware repair, I would recommend looking around you for a repair shop of some sort and see if you can shadow or apprentice someone who works there.
Hope this helps!

Hi!
There is TONS of positions for fixing computers, you can certainly start small by working like at an Apple or smaller companies. I think this would certainly help you go into IT coming into the corporate world, as IT is mainly responsible for anything related to technology.

Corporate IT roles are typically responsible for the computers deployed to all the employees. The scope of work can go beyond simple computer troubleshooting to fix network issues or developing a strategy to make it easier for folks to get their computers set up for the first time.

In today's world, every company has computers; which means every company needs someone to fix those computers when they break!! Take a look at jobs on an IT help desk, in "field services" (servicing laptops in the field). Also, several smaller companies contract out this work, so look at small IT firms that partner with small businesses to get a ton of experience and exposure within your geographical area!

Computers are everywhere, from corporate America, small business, education and homes. So there are all sorts of opportunities for repairing them. Whether it is with the hardware or the software. Each one of these has many opportunities. Hardware for example could be on a macro scale where you determine a particular add in card is faulty and change it out. It can be as detail as determining what component on the add in board is faulty and replace it.
While some sort of certification is helpful, it may not be required. It shows that you are a student, so depending on if that is High School you may have difficult time getting into the corporate world IT department until after high school. There could be some small repair shops that are looking for entry level and are willing to train. You could also look into some of the Electronic stores that offer repair like Best Buy.

Hello - There are tons of jobs for fixing computers. I work in a healthcare industry and I can see it as one of the growing areas (especially on the software side). A lot of it now is remote as well, which does open more doors in terms of job opportunities.
Thanks,
Anup
