I am a voice over actor who has done radio commercials and audio books. I recommend first taking voice over classes online as well as watching videos and reading books about the business of voice overs. You will eventually want to take 3-6 months creating a voice over demo reel with different areas (promo, commercial, industrial, documentary, animation). Then you will want to submit your demo to voice over agents looking for new talent. If you get one to take you onto their roster, you will be getting daily/weekly auditions. In this day and age where in person auditions are less, you will need to create a home studio space with a quiet room, something to soak up the sound (clothes, sheets, styro-foam baffling), a good quality high-condenser microphone, an interface like Focusrite Scarlett, software to record (like Pro Tools or the free program Audacity) and a lap top. Then you can record auditions when you need to.

Audio books are there own separate industry. People start on acx.com where you can create a producer profile and upload demos and search available jobs (books) to audition for. When you've done 10-15 books on acx you can graduate to audible.com which is better quality books and better pay grade.

Again, try to learn as much as you can about the business and don't go in blindly. Take the time to learn and get all your duck in order so you can increase your chances for success.

I wish you the best in your endeavor!

I've seen jobs posting for voice acting on platforms like Indeed, LinkedIn. I would say to go ahead and apply and see if you like the work - but also look at applying for production or studio internships to learn the ins and outs of the industry! It will also make you more marketable in case you decide to make a pivot.
