I did it to make my parents happy. I did it because I was always told I'd be good at it. I did it because I knew I'd be good at it. I did it because I didn't know what else to do. Those aren't good reasons. It is a wonderful profession in many ways, but it is also extremely demanding, the education is very expensive and lengthy, and law school doesn't teach you how to be a lawyer, so it's a slow path to become an experienced attorney. I would suggest going to law school if you are in love with the idea of law school and if it is financially feasible. I would suggest talking to all the attorneys you can before going to law school, if you think you are in love with the idea of being a lawyer. I wish you all the luck and happiness.

My husband is a lawyer and he chose to study law for two reasons: 1. He liked that he would be able to help people when they couldn't resolve an issue on their own and 2. He wanted to be able to say he gets paid to argue so he could end arguments with his mom.
Make sure you're passionate about the law and those you will be helping.

Hello Rose,
I chose to study Law, because I have always found the Criminal Justice field as a whole very intriguing. I love helping those who are not able to help themselves. I wanted to make a difference in our Criminal Justice field, & I want those who are facing hard times in our system to know that there are individuals that are on their side, & that are willing to not only fight with them but for them in their time of need even when they feel as though they might not have anyone else to turn to.

I chose to study law because I was interested in having a "seat at the table." Without knowing what type of law I wanted to practice, I knew that a legal degree could be a foot in in the door in a way that my undergraduate, Political Science degree might not. Additionally, while the actual practice of law is often times very different than what students see on TV, there is opportunity for advocacy and I like that part of my job.
