Hi,
Choosing your future career takes into consideration many parameters:
1) is this job in line with you university cursus?, most of the time, people do choose their career based on the type of studies they followed. For example, I had a bachlor degree in management and I am currently a bid manager, managing bids :)
2) Self reflection: what are you interests? sometimes, you won't really be able to find a job that matches your studies, so you would need to choose a job that truly interests you.
For that, you will need to know yourself–your strengths, values, personality, and skills.
3) If you don't really know, Ask someone. Sometimes it’s not eady for us to see the areas in life where we excel, ask your parents, other family members, friends, or teachers what they think you’d be good at. Their ideas might surprise you
Good Luck,

Imane

My advice is to choose something that you enjoy doing. The money, advancement, etc. will all come with time and hard work. Most important is that you want to be able to wake up every morning and be excited about your work and be passionate about what you're doing each day.

Madhusudhan’s Answer

Career, Family and your own well being are the three important pillars of life, if any pillar goes in not in proper position, the rest of the pillars will be at stake and your life will be in danger or in trouble. I see it as a tripod . If you take your camera tripod and if you try it with just two legs, you will never get a still image.

While considering career, the most important thing you need to consider the interest. How much interest do you have in that particular Field? Can you enjoy your work? If yes, go ahead with it, if no,then I recommend that leave it. 70% student choose wrong career as they didn't have aware of career options except ENGINEERING/MEDICAL/BSC/BUSINESS/BA

I'm sure you are wondering why i have not mentioned about money as a factor to be considered- Believe me, if you do what you want & what you love… you will achieve good growth in your career and money comes to you.

Always try to join a medium scale company , where you gain system knowledge , by that I mean marketing to production to sales to payment cycle is visible to you .
MNC will pay better some times but you will be an guided horse , you are not appreciated if you deviate your track, but in most cases medium size companies tend to match MNC salary too.
Some people get their aptitude tested to find their core strengths, but in India it makes less sence for a fresher as lot of people are running to get same piece of bread.
After 5-6 years of experience it is important to vertically grow, else one bad day you will have to report to your juniors. By hook crook or by threat keep getting better positions.
Company which agrees higher than market when joined , then gives below 10% increment per year means you have to find new company and join with min. 30% hike, else one bad day you will realise you are eating peanuts and other have switched to cashews
Sales and marketing pays well, compared to other profiles, it is equally painful and you will be travelling- if you have acidity kind of health factor stay away , as you need to be really resistant to every food and germs and bedbugs
Don't , never, ever, seldom choose the company by its brand name and hoardings in the market, branding is for consumers and not for the employees.
3-4 years or slightly more experience as an chair heating employee will reduce errors as an entrepreneur .

Mike’s Answer

Hi Sohail!

Best advice I can give is to take a moment and reflect upon the type of work you think will make you happy, something more intrinsically rewarding than a paycheck, and something that when you look back 1, 5, 25 years from now and can say, "I made a difference, I contributed to the world, I contributed to my community and my fellow humans".

Now, folks search their entire careers for that type of opportunity. While you're young, and before you embark on a journey in the workplace, now is the great time to take stock in what's important to you, and where you believe will give you a sense of purpose each, and every day.

I'd also recommend checking out this book, "What Color is Your Parachute?" (http://www.parachutebook.com/) by Richard N. Bolles. This is a good read for helping determine your passions, and helping identify the right track to ensure you're involved in work that matches your interests.

Keep an open mind. As I mentioned, most folks search their entire lives for work that is purposeful to them. Be resilient, and keep up your search and pursuit for the work that matches your purpose as it may not come from the first, second, or even third/more, jobs that you will have over the course of your career.

Hope this helps! You got this!

Rebecca’s Answer

Firstly, you have to ask yourself what you are really interested on . Secondly, does that career have any entry criteria? E.g. Some professions need minimum qualification, e.g. Doctor, Lawyer, Accountant, etc.

I am not sure about what grade you are in. Suggest you think through this question as early as you can, especially before you entering the university. If you are interested on the professionals, you can select the relevant subjects on your undergraduate degree.

Hope this helps!

Treasa’s Answer

First and the most important thing is your interest & liking!! - this would be the major one.
But doesn't end there!...

You need to decide if your interest is what you want to take up as career - this is where majority of them fail ( including me !!).
Little dedication and time towards achieving or making that decision worth .( this includes your academics )
Continuously improving your skills which is required ( even after you reach your goal ).

And yes, give time to yourself and family - this helps big time in your career. Cos you will have peace of mind and you will not reach a saturation point and get bored with what you chose!

I'm sure you are wondering why I have not mentioned about money as a factor to be considered - Believe me, if you do what you want and what you love... You will achieve good growth in your career and money comes to you.
