For most types of engineering, the foundational knowledge required is a good understanding of Physics and Mathematics. Without knowing too much about your education system, I would suggest you look for a stream that has Trigonometry, Calculus, or Linear equations, as well as some Physics courses. Depending on the type of engineering you want to get into, Chemistry also has a pretty broad reach as well. I would recommend learning a bit about computers, basic programming classes can help immensely with nearly all engineering fields.
If you edit your question to include any specific disciplines of engineering you're interested in someone may be able to recommend more specific study areas to look for.
