Hey Jozlyn! I am a social worker and have worked in child protective services. It can be an amazing and rewarding job but is also very fast paced. Often agencies are understaffed so workloads can be high and it is a high pressure environment. The decisions you make are critical to the well-being and outcomes for each family. The most important thing for this type of work is to have a passion for children and families and a desire to ensure all children are cared for, provided for and safe. In many social work programs they will offer and child welfare collaborative that will give you the opportunity to be placed in internships with child welfare agencies, receive the necessary training and oftentimes employed upon graduation. It gives you a major boost in qualifications and being prepared for the hard work that goes into it. Think about the type of work you want to do within child protection. The jobs are typically investigators (responding to child abuse reports), in-home (providing services to at risk families to prevent foster care), foster care , and adoptions. Their is a huge need for passionate professionals in this field and it seems like you have a knack for it already :)
Thank you!
