There are a lot of good trade schools available and apprenticeships are a good resource to learn without the tuition cost. Some companies like Caterpillar have training programs. There is also the military with the Army, Marines, and Airforce. However, I feel from experience working with the other military services that Navy Construction Battalions (Seabee) has the best program to learn a wide range of mechanic skills.
I am no longer affiliated with the military but here is a good link to get you started. https://www.navy.com/careers/construction

It looks like there is good demand for Diesel Mechanics and by googling I see that there are a few schools in your area:

Ideally you could try and get a job as an apprentice at a shop and apply what you are learning or better yet find a company that will pay some or all of the tuition.
You should sometimes have in the back of your mind, what does it take to owned my own shop? It's not easy running a business but it can be a good option someday. Good luck to you!
Research school beware of high tuition
Look for local shops willing to bring you in as an apprentice
