What's a good way to ask for a Medical Assisting externship?
I'm a Medical Assisting student at an institute in my area. I'll be going on externship in about 2-3 months and I don't know how to go about looking for an externship and a job to support myself through school at the same time. #medicine #management #students #hiring #organization #assistants #externship

I just looked up all doctor offices in my area that I was interested and just ask if they are accepting student externships.

Inquire at the institute where you are going to school to see if they have a program in place to assist in placing you on an externship. If not, perhaps they can start a pilot program for externs. If there is a particular area of interest you have (internal medicine, pediatrics, etc., ) reach out to offices in your area and see if they accept student externs. They may require a resume and actual interview before making a decision. You might also consider reaching out to professional organizations where you are located and perhaps they can offer suggestions for externship sites.
You did not indicate how long the externship would be, perhaps check out open positions in your area and see if they might allow you to complete your externship and if successful and a good fit for their office, offer you a regular position. I teach at a community college and we offer an externship program for eight weeks. We frequently tell students that an externship is an eight-week interview. Maybe that will work for you.
Good luck.
